Strengthening community connections in Bristol

Bristol’s Pakistani community welcomed Mr Fahad Amjad, Pakistan’s Consul General in Birmingham, for a visit organised with Councillor Abdul Malik and Pakistan Community Organisation Bristol.

The visit began at City Hall, where the Consul General met the Lord Mayor, council leadership and members of the council’s communities team.

Councillor Malik raised the community’s aspiration for a Pakistani community centre — a place to celebrate its heritage, bring generations together and support local families.

The proposal received an encouraging response, with discussions about how that ambition could be taken forward.

The visit then continued at Easton Jamia Masjid, where elders, women and representatives of local mosques and community organisations joined a MACSAD gathering.

The conversation covered community needs and access to NADRA services, including the role mosques could play in making appointments more accessible to families across Bristol.

The Consul General praised Councillor Malik’s community leadership and heard directly from those attending.

For Councillor Malik, a lifelong Easton resident, the visit was an opportunity to put local concerns and the community centre proposal directly before both city leaders and Pakistan’s consular representative.
